Stealth Remodel (Before and After)

Maintaining a traditional look in this established neighborhood was a primary design consideration for the owners of this West Seattle home.

They needed more space and wanted a full second story but didn’t want to overwhelm the scale of the neighborhood that had attracted them in the first place. The solution is a period-specific roofline that softens the scale of the structure. The swooping line of the upper roof draws the eye to the counterpoint of the arched entry roof.

The second story expansion resulted in three bedrooms and two full baths being added to the upstairs. Other improvements included an attached garage with a view deck for entertaining.

The owners love their new home. As a bonus, complete strangers knocked on the door to thank them for keeping the character of the neighborhood.
