Rambler Redeemed

(Before and After)

When the owners wanted to expand their home’s space, Mercer Island’s strict land use code became an obstacle. Coding rules effectively meant the garage could not be moved or replaced, meaning Eric Gedney Architect had to find a creative solution to play up the entry door while working within the existing footprint.

Beyond this, EGA was able to redesign the entire main floor and add an additional floor with a private master deck that combines the existing with the new to create a unified look for the whole structure. The unique “pitched hip” roof adds a modern style while staying compatible with the character of the residential neighborhood.
